F.A.Q.
Q. What is the question? What is the correct way to use Spirit Gum Adhesive
A. What is the answer?
SPIRIT GUM APPLICATION and REMOVAL
1. Spirit Gum is basically contact cement for the skin.
2. To begin with make sure you clean any area of the skin with alcohol or witch hazel to clean any oils and dirt out of the way. Remove any hair that will be under the appliance or it may get pulled out when removing the appliance.
3. Apply a thin layer of spirit gum to the skin where you are placing the appliance and apply a thin layer of spirit gum to the appliance.
Since it is highly adhesive, only a small amount of Spirit Gum is necessary. Applying too much glue could result in a plastic coat that is visible, especially to a camera. Too much spirit gum on a beard will significantly decrease its reusability.
4. Allow the spirit gum to get tacky on both the skin and appliance. You can tap the spirit gum lightly with a finger until it becomes tacky to check it. It is tacky when little strings of gum stick to your finger.
5. Once the spirit gum is tacky, press the appliance in place and hold for a couple of minutes.
6. Once set, wipe the edge of the hairpiece, prosthetic or bald cap with moistened cotton or a soft cloth to eliminate any shine that could be visible.
7. For larger appliances, pre fit the piece in place and mar k the outside edges with an eyeliner pencil (or anything that will wash off) so you know where to apply the spirit gum.
Clean the neck of the bottle with the Adhesive Remover before closing it so that the glue does not dry, sealing the bottle permanently. However, if this should occur, soak the bottle in very hot water.
REMOVE:
1. Soak a cotton ball or swab in the adhesive remover and gently massage area where the appliance is attached.
2. Let remover soak in to spirit gum for a minute or two to loosen it.
3. Gradually pull the appliance away from the skin, applying more remover as required.
4. Gently wipe away any residue left on the skin with clean cotton balls soaked in remover
5. Repeat as needed.
6. Wash area with mild soap and water.
The front of the lace can get pretty dirty and the adhesive can build up an unsightly residue if not cleaned often. This step should be performed as regular maintenance.
Not maintaining the beard properly can damage it.
Soak a washcloth or toothbrush in alcohol until soaked.
Hold the washcloth on the inside of the lace wherever residue from glue or makeup has built up. Keep it pressed there for a few seconds.
With the cloth or toothbrush, gently wipe off the glue, using care not to abrade the lace. You want to just barely loosen the glue, not scrub it off.
If residue is stubborn, you can fill a shallow dish with alcohol and lay the area of the lace in the alcohol. Make sure the glued or stained area is the only part making contact with the alcohol, and leave in the dish for a few seconds until the residue begins to dissolve. Check often and never leave unattended or soak the entire piece.
Avoid the inner edge of the eye. Do not apply to open wounds or problem or irritated skin. In the event of stinging, irritation or allergy, remove the glue immediately using the Spirit Gum Remover, rinse thoroughly, especially the eyes, and apply the appropriate medical product.
Do not swallow and keep out of reach of children. Test the glue on the skin before use.
